In the chapter on "Super Nutrients," we discussed some non-essential, but highly desirable, nutritional supplements that we can take to optimize physiologic function and slow down the aging process. Even though they are not necessary to life, they are highly useful add-ons. These nutrients have the ability to significantly alter the rate and appearance of aging for many people.
There are many such compounds available. Because of space limitations, we needed to restrict our discussion in The Baby Boomers' Guide to Living Forever to only seven: coenzyme Q 10 (coQ), proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract), N-acetylcysteine (NAC), S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM), alpha lipoic acid, and carnosine. These seven compounds all are found naturally in the body or are herbal products. They possess an amazing potential to enhance life, promote youthfulness, reverse age and generate energy.
