S-AMe, pronounced "Sam E", is an amino acid derivative that has recently begun to make a name for itself as part of our anti-aging arsenal. It is a synthetic version of a natural metabolite (breakdown product) of the amino acid, methionine. There have been hundreds of articles in the medical literature on this compound. Almost daily an effective new use is discovered and backed by scientific literature.
There is an important anti-depressant activity of S-AMe due to its effect on the neurotransmitters. In fact, several studies have shown a more rapid, more potent response than many prescription anti-depressant drugs. Some studies also show it has potential to help with fibromyalgia, arthritis, liver disease and Parkinsons.
S-AMe is low in patients with Alzheimers disease. This is a new finding. There need to be studies done to determine the role of S-AMe in prevention of Alzheimers.
