Pregneneolone is mainly produced by the adrenal glands directly from cholesterol. As we see, pregnenolone serves as an intermediate in the biosynthesis of DHEA, progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen.
Pregneneolone, along with its daughter hormone DHEA, once found extensive use among previous generations of physicians. With the advent of stronger, synthetic hormones such as prednisone, however, use of this natural treatment fell into disrepute. With all the recent interest in alternative and natural methods of healing, however, pregnenolone has recently enjoyed something of a renascence.

For most people over the age of 35 or 40, we recommend an anti-aging dose of pregnenolone of between 5 and 25 mg daily. Men must monitor PSA levels when taking pregneneolone or any other steroid precursor. We do not routinely measure levels of pregneneolone at the present time.
