Pillar Seven: Detoxification

A gentle, yet very effective, technique for mobilizing lymphatic fluid, which we use both in our clinic and suggest that our patients use at home, utilizes the mini-trampoline or rebounder. 

Rebounding exercise is unique among all forms of exercise. In this form of exercise a small circular or rectangular trampoline, is employed to accomplish one important goal: enhanced lymphatic drainage and removal of toxins from the body. Inexpensive mini-tramps are commonly available at sporting goods stores (often under $30). If you begin rebound exercise and find you are "hooked", you may want to upgrade to a better quality rebounder. We list the names of high quality rebounder manufacturers below.

Rebounding exercise is designed primarily to perform detoxification. It is not specifically intended to build larger muscles or improve aerobic fitness. The purpose of rebounding exercise is to improve your general overall energy and facilitate lymph flow. These beneficial results often occur quickly and can be quite dramatic. By moving your body up and down in a vertical direction without jarring such as occurs in jogging, all the cells in your body experience constantly changing gravitational forces. At the top of each bounce, you are momentarily weightless (zero gravity), while at the bottom of your bounce, your weight momentarily doubles (twice the normal gravitational pull). When your body travels upward while gravity is pulling it downward, energy is generated in every cell of your body. The result of this motion is that cellular metabolism is stimulated and lymphatic flow increases several-fold.

By bouncing on the trampoline, you are employing the pumping mechanism of the calf muscles and using the forces of gravity to help mobilize the circulating fluids. The so-called “Health-Bounce” is the basic exercise we recommend for increasing lymphatic flow. Begin by standing on the trampoline with both feet and gently bounce without allowing your feet to leave contact with the rebounding surface. That’s all there is to "The Health Bounce." It’s very easy, invigorating and promotes rapid changes in lymphatic stasis. In a variation of the "Health Bounce" you do a heel toe walk while bouncing, again not even needing for your feet to leave the rebounding surface. 

We recommend that you begin The "Health-Bounce" for 3-4 minutes a few times each day. For most people, just doing this will result in significant improvement in their overall feeling of energy and well being. In addition, these benefits are cumulative. The more times each day you can bounce and the longer you continue to use your rebounder consistently week after week, the more energy you will have. 

In addition to using your rebounder for energy enhancement and lymphatic drainage, you can use it for aerobic exercise as well. As you bounce up and down, the lymphatics throughout your body are "milked," and dramatic increases in flow of lymph can occur. Since buildup of non-flowing and toxin-laden lymph is a characteristic of conditions of chronic disease and modern sedentary lifestyles, rebound exercise often works quite dramatically in toxin removal, particularly when used as part of a program of systemic detoxification as outlined. Coupling rebounding exercise with chelation treatments, aerobic exercise and the other lifestyle changes of our "Ten Pillars" can lead to immediate and profound improvements in energy and general health.
