If I were marooned on a deserted island somewhere with only two nutrients available to me, I would definitely pick coenzyme Q10 (co Q10) to be one of them. Co Q10 is a molecule found naturally in the body that works alongside of vitamin E to help protect the fat-soluble parts of the cell from the onslaught of free radicals.
Dr. Folkers was one of the first to suggest a link between declining levels of Co Q10 and many illnesses associated with aging, notably heart disease, cancer and Alzheimers. His theory was that since Co Q10 is involved in the production of ATP, any decline would affect the bodys energy production.
What is even more exciting is the ongoing study and research being performed with Co Q10 and cancer. Research suggests that supplementation of Co Q10 can increase our T-cells, the bodys disease fighting immune cells. T-cells hunt out and help neutralize cancer cells.
Dosage: As a preventive measure, we generally recommend between 30 and 90 mg of Co Q10 each day. In cases of high blood pressure, we typically use 200 mg per day. As part of our protocol for congestive heart failure, we typically use 300 mg, and as an adjunct in cases of cancer, we will go up as high as 600 mg.
